Situated in
beautiful surroundings of Aglika island, the
temple of Philae is approached from Aswan.
The temple was originally constructed on the
island of Philae but was reassembled (like
Abu Simbel) 550 mts from it's original place
because the site was going to be submerged
with the waters from the High Dam. This site
is matched to its original one and the
temple is dedicated to the Goddess Isis. The
several structures celebrate the deities
involved with the myth of Isis and Osiris.
Built during the 26th Dynasty and the Roman
Period, the architecture has a strong Roman
influence.
